How can I get Apache, php and mysql working on xp?

Does anyone have any idea why it is not functioning? are there known problems with getting this stuff to work on xp?

It just doesn't work, and it never says why!
with oscommerce we don't even get past step two...

any ideas welcome !!
 
I installed apache rather easily, go through their step by step, PHP and mysql took a bit of tweaking but I can't remember what exactly I did.

you'll have to open the ports necessary and make sure IIS is disabled otherwise you'll have a conflict.
