How can i get Adobe Flash Player working with Firefox?

Some time ago I started getting a message to say I need to download plugins and inviting me to download Adobe Flash Player. After a struggle I did this and it seems to work Ok with Internet Explorer, but I cannot get it to work with Mozilla Firefox, which I prefer. I did not find the Adobe Help advice very helpful at all. Far too technical for me.

Just follow the instruction to there letter, it will work fine. You must do a Manual Install.

I would love to know the answer to this. I have a training CD rom that does not run it tells me to load the newest flash player having done so, it still does not work. it is driving me mad.
