son with what he needs? Believe it or not, I am a special education teacher and I still am having trouble with this school district. Fairfield-Suisun district in Solano county, CA has not been helpful in any way. My job is 1 1/2 hours away from Suisun. My husband works 2 hours away. My son has been in the same daycare since a young age. He is there is with same age cousin. He relies heavily on him for support. My family is in the area as well. They help me with transportation to services. Recently, my son finally had a transition meeting for preschool services. I have been trying to contact everyone in this district as well as the SELPA director of special education and no one can bother to respond. This has been over 6 months of leg work here.
My son's preschool services (speech and OT) need to be where he will attend preschool with his cousin, where I work. When he turns 5, he will attend the school I work for. The school I work for is willing to take my son and give him services with a memorandum of understanding from Fairfield-Suisun School district to pay for services. So far, they are not willing to provide this.
What can I do? I can't believe that they would sit on their hands like this when I am a special education teacher. Well, I guess I can. I have heard a lot of bad things about this district. Anyway, frustrated parent here trying to get the best help for my son, which would be an interdistrict transfer agreement. This would be the safest for my son, not to mention, interrupting his whole life and routine.
Does anyone know or have used a "good" advocate?
My next step is to have a family friend (lawyer) write a letter.
