defense[sexual battery] in Jacksonville? I am 8 months pregnant and my fiance was just arrested last week for capital sexual battery. Of course it is false, i have been with him for 2 years and known him 6, it was before we dated that it happened, but i knew him still. His parents cant afford a lawyer and im only 18, so im trying to find a pro bono one that can help him out because this is a serious charge. All the have is the kid saying this happened, he told his mom a year later after he got back from staying with family up north that have actually been accused of sexual assault, kind of funny huh? i wanna do everything i can to help my fiance get out by the time his son is born next month, but i am having a real hard time finding pro bono lawyers. please if your gonna comment just to criticize dont even bother, i have enough stress going on as it is.

Your boyfriend should receive a court appointed attorney if he cant afford one.

"staying with family up north that have actually been accused of sexual assault"

Be careful where you go with that statement, at this point that's exactly what has happened to your boyfriend too, he has been accused. An accusation doesn't make him guilty any more than it made the victim's family members guilty.

If he's eligible for a court appointed defense attorney, the court will appoint one. You will not find a lawyer to represent him pro bono. This type of case is far, far too expensive for any attorney to do it for free.

The court will appoint him an attorney. That's the law - if a defendant can't afford an attorney, the court has to provide him with one.

Although, having been through a similar situation myself, the prospects of your fiance being cleared of these charges is slim. A guy I dated was also falsely accused of sexual abuse. Despite all the evidence that he didn't do it (and the prosecutor flat out stating that she knew he didn't do it and didn't care, she just wanted her conviction), he was found guilty and sentenced to 5-15 years in prison, AND has to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

I'm not telling you this to panic you - I just want you to prepare yourself for the EXTREMELY stressful road to come. My prayers are with you.
