How can I fix up a 13yr old Honda Civic without replacing it? It's my friend's car and holds a lot of sentimental value (it once belonged to her now-deceased mother) but it seems to be falling apart at the seams.

With regards to the body, the only thing wrong is that the front passenger side window won't go down and the lock on the same door won't lock or unlock in sync with the others.

The engine over-heats extremely easily and the car often runs out of gas without the little gas light ever turning on. It trembles a bit whenever driving and the wheel alignment is way off.

Sorry if some of these problems are unclear but I know nothing about cars. What can be done to save the car? Does the engine or front passenger side door need to be replaced?

The problems that you list in your question seem rather minor - without actually inspecting the car it's hard to say what all it needs.
The door and lock problem are generally rather minor repairs, wheel alignment is a maintenance item and the overheating problem could have numerous possible causes.
