How can I fix the noise my 97 Honda Civic makes?

When ever I step out of my car with the engine on, my car sounds a little loud under the hood. I think its the pulleys that are acting a little noisy. Can I change I even change the pulleys? If i do, will my car be more quiet? The only noise I should hear is my engine right?
