How can I fix my dome light in my 2000 Toyota Corolla?

The plug doesn't properly fit into the lighting, so I'm wondering how can I repair this? I'm not sure how this ever happened.

There wires on the bracket show no previous bending in anyway, the wires [the plug] just doesn't go in. I'm thinking was there a adapter or something? The wires on the bracket also don't line up with the sockets in the plug too.
 
Thanks for the photos ( too many people ask a question and expect an answer from "us" using our crystal ball ) It is still difficult to see, though, in the photos as to what the problem is. My guesses are (1) the plug needs to go in on the other side; in other words, flip it to the right 1/2 way or (2) the wires in the light fixture are bent or ?? so they don't line up
