How can I do light effects in Photography?

I'm wondering how you can do natural light effects. I want my pictures to have light like this:

I'm an amateur photographer and I want to know how you can do natural light effects just like that picture. Photoshop is fine with me too.

I know of one really good tutorial on how to do great lighting really cheap. I don't know the link so =[... but seeing as you already know deviantart I'm sure you can look it up.
check for photography communities that shares tutorial and advice on line or next time you're at a bookstore look around the photography section in the magazine stands. They share a lot of good websites and tutorials to help you in your photography.
