How can I discuss religion without getting preachy?

I'm in the process of writing a fictional book. Somehow, my characters seemed to take it in a different direction and it's now become tricky to write.

I need to find a way to discuss religion without getting preachy and turning the reader off. My story is basically about the struggle between good and evil, the delicate balance that must be maintained so the world isn't thrown out of whack. I didn't intend for it to happen, but now there are angels and demons involved. Their presence is so strong I think I may have to write them in as main characters.

Right now, I'm stuck on a scene where a demon and an angel are sitting down with the Main Character and telling her about the balance and what needs to be done for it to be restored. I have a general idea how to start it off, but I have a feeling the angel and demon are going to hijack the conversation and start fighting.

I just want to clarify a couple things:

1. I am not a religious person. I do, however, have enough of an understanding of the various faiths to make it so I'm not committing any glaring errors (I'm something of a hobby-theologian).
2. I don't want to try and force a certain POV or religious agenda.
3. Please, PLEASE don't let this turn into a religious debate. I don't care who believes what, that is your own business and not anyone else's.
4. I tried to avoid including the overtly religious elements in the story, but at this point if I were to take them out, I'd have to scrap the entire project and start with something completely new. I adore my story and my characters, but this scene is giving me major issues.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
When I say I'm not religious I mean just that. I don't believe in anything, but I wouldn't necessarily call myself an athiest, though. Please don't tell me to pray or that my soul needs saving or whatever; I don't want to hear it.

I'm not going to focus on the religious aspects, but it is crucial to the plot of the story. This scene I'm concerned about is the big "oh, we're going to explain the whole deal and get it out of the way" part.
