How can I debate respectfully?

I'm really opinionated and if I were to see someone say something controversial or simply stupid on YouTube or Facebook or the like I can't help myself but to throw in my two cents. I love debating but I can't stop it from turning into an argument. If the person really does lack any sort of intelligence and is just spewing nonsense, I end up getting overly excited and attack them because I can't stand their stupidity and/or naivete. Even if the topic of debate is extremely controversial or touchy (such as religion), how can you debate while still remaining respectful?
 
Wow, you should be on the debate team :) I myself love debating. The most respectful way of debating would be to not let it get out of hand. Such as, tell them that you respect the way they think(if you really do) and say, "well hey, my opinion is blahblahblah..." But it's good to be aggressive when debating. So really, there's no 100% respectful way of debating. Just don't get too rude.
