How can i create a winter wonderland in my garden for my son?

This would make a great idea for a Christmas party for your son and his friends.

I really wouldn't worry about making snow. He ought to realize by now that it doesn't always snow and be ok with that. But I would get a whole bunch of that angel hair tinsel stuff and hang it in all the trees and bushes and hang snowflake decorations.

It's hard to really give specific ideas because I don't know what kind of climate you live in, how much space you have in your backyard, or what kinds of trees and plants you have.
 
I normally take my son to the woods at christmas for search for santa, however it has been cancelled this year and i know he is going to be upset. I was thinking of turning my back garden into a winter wonderland (on the cheap) but i am struggling with ideas to create a snow covered lawn effect without hiring a snow machine. I am looking for cheap ideas as i am on a tight budget but would really like any ideas so i can make this christmas special for him. Many thanks.
