How Can I Create A Good Relationship With My Sister In Law?

I have an older brother who's been dating a girl for about a year. She was pregnant, and she just had their baby December 16th. They live in another state, and I only see them a few days each month. I'm very shy, and I can't really open up to people that I don't know very well. I know that she thinks that I don't like her, but I do, I just don't know what to say to her. I want to be able to talk to her like she's my sister, even though she's not married to my brother yet. How can I do that? I'm really not good at this kind of stuff, and I need help. Thank you.
 
You have to try as hard as you can

I would tell her how you feel. Shy or not tell her you are shy and really appreciate having a sister....and are looking forward to being an Aunt. Remind her that she and this child are important to you and you want to be a big part of their lives.

If you can't say it...send a card of thinking of you and write it...then she will know.

But you should try to talk to her to open up. Once you do it will be easier each time. You might want to ask if you can come visit during a summer month sometime to get to know her better and spend time with them and the baby.

I am sure she will understand.
