I've asked for one several times. Sometimes I'll just flat out ask and other times (mostly with my dad) I'll just say, "So I found this cheap phone for this one company and the plans are cheap too" and he'll be like, "Cool." And then he'll go into all this stuff about how I'm not making enough money to do that and still have "a life" and how I'll have to go into counseling because I won't know how to communicate with people (what the freak?) He thinks that I'll sit down on the couch with my friends and we'll text each other instead of talk.
My mom says I can get one if I earn enough money and can pay for it by myself. Then, once I have the money she says that I have to have a debit card which is basically her way of saying that I can't buy one for myself till I'm 16 and both my parents have sworn they will never buy me a cell phone.
I'm really responsible and I participate in a lot of activities and go to a lot of movies/plays/restaurants/etc with my friends so it would be really convenient for me to have one. Their argument against this is: All your other friends have cell phones, they can do the calling, you don't need one. But that's my point. ALL of my friends have cell phones! How can I convince my parents to let me get one?
