how can I connect my TV to my laptop v ia HDMI cable?

I have a program on my laptop that streams videos. Until now, I have been able to connect my computer via HDMI cable and it worked. Now, the two devices don't seem to be able to communicate. The tv reads "no signal" and won't connect. My computer then starts to go haywire and "flickers" or blinks when they're connected. I'm very frustrated and know not what to do????
