How can I connect my desktop computer to the internet through a wireless router?

So, we just recently switched to Comcast. We have a desktop computer at home which needs to have the internet. I'm using the internet right now because I have a cable from the Modem connected to my laptop. However, the modem is on the oppossite side of the room from which our desktop computer is, meaming the Ethernet cable cannot reach from the desktop computer to the modem. What are our options? Do we really have to rearrange the living room for this? And when can my laptop break free from this cable? Thanks
