how can i catch fish for my freshwater tank?

if i find a local pond or lake that has fish how can i catch them without hurting them so they will live in my tank?
how did ur friend catch it.I know when you go fishing normally you have a hook. The hook hurts the fish
 
we did the same thing in our old tank! it was very fun and interesting! my 10gal tank had 1guppy and we went to the lake with a bucket and just cought like 30 fish that were the same kind! they were yellow with black stripes and to this day not one has died! and all we did was catch them in the bucket(lakewater was in it) brought it home put them in a glass bowl( purified the water with the same stuff as the 10gal tank) and got a mini net and caught them and put them in! they eat tropical fish food. so it all worked out great! good luck!
