how can i boost the signal on my nokia n97mini?

i am on o2 network and originally had an LG renoir. the village i live in is notorious for rubbish signal. I killed my other phone and was sent the nokia n97 Mini as a replacement. it is the same network so why is my signal so much worse and is there anything i can do to change this? I am contracted until April next yr so changing to another network is not an option at the moment. it is so pointless paying for a phone I am unable to use
