I love nature. I love animals. I believe about being green due to bettering the environment and preventing further global warming and such.

Im 18 years old. I am about to start at a community college soon and eventually will transfer to a different college to get a degree.

I have heard some about earth science, and some about envirormental science...

*where should i focus my studies? (or what degree do you suggest?)
* what jobs are out there to help wildlife/environment/making small differences to help the world?
the ones i have already thought of is honey bee keeping/ forest protector/ endangered species specialist.. so on

if you have any information about one of these jobs, OR a job you see suitable in a relevant type a field, TELL ME ABOUT IT.

thank you so much. i really need more info :)

It's great that you love to protect wildlife.

I myself is a Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences major at UIUC. If you want to become part of wildlife protection, you would probably want to go down the route of biology, environmental science, ecology, etc. Earth science is more like geology, they learn about rocks and ....

I also started in a community college, woot, what a coincidence, I was at the community college for two years. I would suggest you get at least a Bachelor degree instead of an Associate... but of course, there is no stopping you from getting a Master or Dr. The first two years you can probably focus more on getting your general education done. Then you can transfer to a four year institution where you can get your Bachelor of Science, probably in biology or environmental science. For my major of NRES, there is a concentration calls Fish and Wildlife Conservation, so that's probably right up your ally. You can probably find similar major at other schools as well.

There are tons of job opportunities out there, I will just list a few that come across my mind right now. You can work at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, you can probably figure out what they do just by its name. Also I volunteer at the local nature center, they have school tour that teaches kids about the nature. You can be a park rangers or work for the EPA, private environmental consultant firms, do research at a university, etc. You can also be a lobbyist!

This is just some personal experiences I had, if you have any more questions, please ask! Hope this help!

Hi!!! We are soooo much alike
Im only 14, but know what I want to do, and am going into a animal high-school (so excited!)

I want to own a conservation center... and if I have the space and money, an animal shelter!!!!

email me at [email protected]
if you have any questions or w/e

good luck

You need to talk to a counselor at the college you're going to, and I suggest you pick a wildlife preservation society that focuses on interests you mentioned and email them your questions. I included just one link below, and it's their job page. There's many, many wildlife societies to choose from.

Best wishes!

BTW, make SURE you choose a community college and university that will let you transfer your credits, or you may find you've wasted 2 years toward getting a degree!

forestry, wildlife and natural resources is a 2 year degree from community college and most credits will transfer towards 4 year if you wanted to go that way. colorado state has a very good program. there are alot of career opportunities with this kind of education and most are in demand. good luck
