How can I avoid a debate and having my feelings hurt when family questions

me about being a vegetarian? If I say "No thanks, I'd rather not eat meat" at a family dinner, it will inevitably become a debate with the odds against me. My family will make little comments to each other and laugh about me when I'm sitting right there. They say "God gave us dominion over the animals. He gave them to us to eat." In the end I feel embarrassed, angry, and hurt. What would you do in this sittuation? How can I avoid it altogether? Do I just say, I'd rather not talk about it, as soon as the topic comes up?
