how can i alter a photo to have this effect?

can someone give me directions on how to do this? and list any free programs that i could use for it. i am using a vista

you can download a program called GIMP for free, just google it.

to do the picture, select the object using a lasso tool, then hit copy or cut, or put it on its own layer.

then go to the whole picture again and make it black and white and then hit paste.

i think that'll work.
