How can I adjust a carburetor on a suzuki vitara 1.6 8v engine, it's running too rich...

...:(? On start up there is no black smoke or blue smoke or water dripping out of exaust, it's just normal condensation, but it is smelling really bad of petrol. Recently changed spark plugs and they were black, not normal colour, got no slits in pipes, not losing any water or oil. Please help, I have been told if I adjust the carb it may fix the problem, but I just don't know how. :(

No it is definately carburated, but thanks.
 
Some Newer vehicles have carburetors which cannot be adjusted, or if they can, there is a plug over the enrichment screw, you can't get at without drilling out the plug first. Look in Chiltons Manual to see your conditions. It could be a low compression problem or valve timing wrong due to slipped cam belt. Check the car with an OBD II scanner for trouble codes, if it's newer than 1995.. If you check it with a timing light and the timing is wrong, do not try to adjust that before you make sure the cambelt hasn't slipped.
 
are you sure it's carburated not fuel injection? if it's fuel injected it has a bad sensor,(O2 or map sensor). if it is carburated, then unless someone has had it off recently or messed with the adjustment then it shouldn't need readjusting. it may however, be clogged or in need of rebuilding. not expensive to have it done if you don't feel up to the challenge..
