how can a cellphone dialed my home number by itself?

ok, my home phone started ringing around 11:30pm one night...so my hubby and i picked it up thinking that its emergency...only to find out that the call was coming from his cellphone in the kitchen....creepy ha?
no, we didnt checked the phone, it was really scary coz it kept on dialing our home number for over 15 times, without someone dialing it....it did it all by itself...do you think the cell phone is breaking or what?
 
Wow that is scary! Did u check the cellphone to see if the call was made from that device? Because maybe someone was using a called ID spoof thing. Also, there might be a timer sort of thing on the phone which called your home?
