how big is a five gallon fish tank?

kind of like 4 /5 icecream containers, only get one pair, 4 fish will be too much for the tank.. and get a small pair :) have a play on google and see what you want to get and see their max size, rule of thumb is: 1inch per 1 gallon. (based on size of adult fish)
 
can you compare it to somthing plz
what fish should i but for 5 gallon tank(i want one pair or two pair of fish)
