I recently moved to school 10 hours away from home. I noticed a leak two weeks ago (haven't driven within those two weeks) between the two rear wheels. I thought it was brake fluid since I have been having braking issues, but once I smelled the fluid I realized it was coming from the differential. Also, the rear wheels tend to lock up at low speeds (drum brakes) and I was wondering if the fluid is leaking into the drums? (from the outside of the vehicle it appears to only leak from the center of the axle)
I am not very mechanically inclined and I was wondering if I would be okay to drive the vehicle home for the weekend (10 hours from where I currently am)? My mechanic is going to look at the problem on Saturday and I have no idea what to do being so far away. Any help would be great. Thanks
Thanks, now i was wondering if I would need to add any additives to the gear oil?
