how are we sposed to no if history is right? isnt history writen by the victors?

if history is writen by the victors how do we no if there right they could of coverd up what they did wrong. would history been writen diffrent if germ won WW 1 or if we lost the american revaltion or if the south won the civil war. how do we no if history is just writen how the victors want it to be?
 
We have people who research history, and archaeologists who study the past and compare records with the evidence to determine what the facts are, in the case of ancient history. For more recent history, we have the benefit of several points of view to judge what happened, historically speaking.
