How are the newer Honda Civic's in winter weather?

So before next winter I'm thinking of getting a honda civic. I live in upstate NY and every other car I see on the road are honda civic's. I'm just wondering how they are...the pros and cons? How are they in winter weather. How are they in snow and ice? And would you suggest snow tires?
