How are fusions rated-level 1, 2, 3 etc?

my dad is having L2-5 fused next week....getting nervous for him and really hope it works for him and relieves his pain.

i've read so many posts here that classify different fusions as different levels...how is it rated?
what is my dad's fusion going to be classified?

to answer you question, your father is having a 3 level fusion.I had the same exact surgery over 2 years ago and am doing extremely well.hope this helps

Each "joint" is a level.

So L1-L2 is one level
L1-L3 is two level
etc.
