How are companies using the "Go green" cause as a scam to encourage people

I don't have any links or anything, sorry, but I would compare companies that try to encourage people to buy their products by saying that they are "green" to companies that tried to advertise as "light" and "low fat" in the early nineties when eating right came into style. I'm sure alot of products are "green", but I say it's marketing.

In the simplest term, they are trying to jump on the "Feel good" bandwagon that is Go Green. We're a generation plagued by approaching resource crisis's, leading to growing anxiety and concern about what will happen when we run out of these said resources. More and more people are slowly becoming pressured to buy unfriendly goods and products, on the basis that it is good for the environment, and ourselves in the long run. Companies that are viewed as unfriendly, uncaring and even destructive can lose many potential customers and old ones simply because of how people see them.

Reputation is everything to companies big and small, so when people hear stories that they use inferior products, child labour, inflated prices or simply that they are not as good as the competition they can lose business. The latest trend to try and help sales is the Go Green pledge. This makes some companies seem a friendlier alternative to those who do not follow the guidelines.

The easiest way to see it, is that companies are using Go Green to give themselves a positive spin.

As for links, good luck with that, I wouldn't know where to start. But hey this may help a little atleast.
