I went to the E.R 12 days after my period was late for something unrelated. I explained to them that I was sexually active, and that my period was late. They did a urine test & told me that it was negative. I asked if there was any chance that I could still be pregnant and the test just wasn't coming up. And he said that the only way that was possible is if I had just conceived that day, which was impossible. That was the last test I took. Now my period is 1 month & 8 days late. Is it possible that this test was falsely negative? I'm having symptoms, but it could be in my head. I'm not really stressing about anything that I know of. I have an appointment on Tuesday, so I'll find out for sure.. but has this happened to anyone else & ended up being pregnant?

Unless you conceived after your period was due the ER urine test probably would've detected the pregnancy. Urine tests are very accurate once the period is missed especially when it is done by a professional. IF you are pregnant I would guess you conceived a week before the test or after you went to the ER.

The urine tests at the Dr's office and hospital are the exact same test that you can buy at the store. If you want a more accurate result ask for a blood test. Urine tests can only detect an HCG (pregnancy hormone) once it reaches 25-50. Your body starts at a 0 HCG level before concpetion and it doubles every 2-3 days once you conceive. Blood tests can detect any level, making them more accurate sooner. I got negative urine tests for a week past my period due date. I had to get a blood test to finally confirm I was pregnant.

The urine tests at the Dr's office are NOT more accurate than the ones you buy at the store. They most definitely can show a negative if you are pregnant, if it is too early and your HCG levels are too low for the test to detect yet. As a matter of fact the first blood test I had a week past my period due date was negative. The Dr told me she was 99% sure that I was not pregnant but had me come back in 2 days for another blood test to be sure. It was positive.
