How a Fourth Film Can Kill a Franchise

i think you misunderstood the post, unless I misunderstood it! This is about movies that make 3, have a break and then make a fourth to reboot / revive the franchise. Bond didn't stop.

You can pick any number and say this is what killed a franchise though. There will be plenty of examples where the 2nd film was rubbish, or the 3rd.

The forth Hellraiser movie certainly killed that franchise and Batman & Robin finished off the original Batman series of movies.

In the horror genre it's usually the 5th movie which "kills" the franchise.Actually kill is too strong of a strong word, but the fifth installment is often amongst the weakest.

Nightmare on Elm Street 5
Halloween 5
Friday the 13th 5

Saw V resurrected the curse of the number 5.:D

You can never kill a lot of horror franchises, they'll always be dipshits like me willing to buy the sequels. It's the one good thing about remakes, means I can finally stop buying sequels to the original movies :p

I don't actually think the Hellrasier sequels are that bad, recently I finally got around to picking up parts 7 and 8 (deader and Hellworld) and I quite like them too be honest, some are blatantly other scripts that the studio had lying around that have just had pinhead shoehorned into them but I still find plenty of interest in most of the Hellraiser sequels.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull comes to mind. Nasty little movie that was. Pathetic cash in on past glories of Lucas and co. Lucas should just shut up and disappear.

I haven't seen Indy 4 yet so can't comment.

But I though DH4 was ok.

Rocky 4 didn't kill the franchise, best 1 of all really.
On the note, what about Rambo 4 - excellent IMO

Have to agree with Sup 4 though

It's the Last of the Summer Wine of action flicks.

An ageing cast going through the motions of a tired script for the benefit of an audience long past caring.

Even the end credits mimic an OAP's holiday snaps fer chrissakes.
