How 2 delete email from E61 when it's set to delete from phone?

I don't understand how the natieve email program works on the E61. I have my email to only delete from the phone, not the phone and server. But the email ha not disapered from the phone yet. When does it go away? I also don't want to run out of space on here. What am I missing?
 
And there is no way to get rid of it? That's rediculous. I like to keep my email on the server but I don't want to keep the headers on my phone. Is this possible?
 
Same thing appears to be happening with my N73 and the latest firmware. The mail icon gets grayed out a bit, but the header remains even after syncing. I also have tried delete from both the phone and the server (just to test, I'd rather not do that) and it just creates the icon with a red line slashed through it. After syncing it remains there. I would imagine that it is relevant that I mention that I am connecting to a gmail account so it might not support 100% of all of POP's functions, but I think it does....
 
Just so it's clear I am trying to leave the email on the server but take it off of my phone. I don't want to waste all my space on my phone with old email.
 
A lot of what you folks are describing sounds like proper IMAP mail handling. Soft deletion, hard deletion being different. However, loss of synchronization between phone and server *really* wouldn't surprise me if you're using POP type mailboxes.

I will hopefully have my phone tonight and check if the same is true with my IMAP4 based mailservers.
 
I asked the same question and got only one answer, its very annoying to me especially considering i have almost 400 emails in my inbox so they eat up alot of space.
