Are there any restaurants or eateries that are considered "must eats" for food lovers while in Houston? Places that are Houston specific, no chains or fast food.
I can think of Annie's. You'll probably be chided for not visiting at least one barbecue or Mexican establishment, but which ones? Maybe Goode Co. and Hugo's. You can get good steak almost anywhere. The best seafood is near Galveston. There is the Rainbow Lodge, but no one knows about it. French, no. Italian in Houston is pizza. Antonio's is good. There are high class establishments, but is that what you expect from Houston? No.
