Hour-long TV anime?

Most anime TV series are with episodes for a half-hour time slot. A lot of American live-action dramatic shows are made with hour-long episodes. Are there any anime TV series with hour-long episodes?

Pretty much, no.

There are occasional TV specials where 2 episodes run back to back that make up a full story, but even so they are considered 2 episodes for episode counting purposes (I think Naruto and One Piece have had a few of these specials).

As for a TV anime that has a running time of 60 minutes for each episode... I don't think there has ever been one.
There have definitely been OVAs with running times of 45 minutes each episode, though.

Same thing goes for american animation, by the way: name all the hour long cartoon series you can think of.... yeah, exactly.

Yeah that doesn't really happen at all. Probably because of budget and time constraints most anime have and well most western cartoons are half hours too. An OVA is different though and most japanese live action dramas are also an hour long.

Aha! Good call. However it should be noted that the series was aired monthly, not weekly, so it's still not really equivalent to the standard hour long weekly drama.

It all boils down to budget.

It's still really expensive to produce animated shows/films, so doubling the runtime of most shows is definitely out of the question.
