Hotsync freezes on memo

I am a heavy 10 year + user, and thought I had had every problem ever and resolved it with effort, force and forums. This issue is making me struggle.

I have been overseas for a week using Tx with everything possible to stay in touch. it worked fine and had the usual lock ups and a couple of MEMO issues where it would soft reset when I selected memo, this was fixed on the run, by restoring BackUpMan MEMO database from the day before, and MEMO worked fine.

On return to my desktop i attempted a hotsync to, and this freezes on memo and never recovers, the desktop hotsync icon keeps moving but it never finishes, even if I cancel and get the "will take a minute message" it never ends. In fact if goes all night, so I have to do a control alt delete.

The Tx recovers from the cancel and all works fine on it,

I tried to turn the MEMO off in the custom and when I did this set to do nothing, set as default, then ok out, there would come up windows error, wanting to transmit to microsoft, with a send, don't send and a debug, not of this fixed anything, then when i opened custom the memo was at sync, so if i hotsync it would freeze on MEMO.

So i removed the Palm fProgram from the Desktop, restart twice, re installed from the CD, and the same issue, this was done 3 times.

I removed the palm program again ,searched the c drive for hotsync anything and removed it manually, restarted twice and re installed from CD,

Now I can toggle the Custom Memo to do nothing, so I can sync my other built in application ok and did the 4 times and THEY work fine, but when i try to do MEMO it freezes.

I have deleted all the MEMO on the desktop, and tried to sync, each way handheld overwrite, desktop overwrite, sync. and it has no effect it freezes.

I was going to hope that desktop would delete handheld, then from handheld backupman I would restore, then sync again and desktop would have memo again but can't get they.

I also did a hard reset of the Tx and re installed from the BackUpMan, this did not fix anything.

HELP - P L E A SE

Here is what I'd recommend:

Export memo's via the File Menu option on the Palm Desktop as a CSV type file be certain to show the range in the options to export "all" not the default "current" memo.

Delete them from the desktop.

Delete them from the handheld.

Hot Sync with memos set to sync.

Import previously exported memo's to desktop.

Hot sync - all should be good - if not shoot something to make you feel better?

sounds good, one problem, the Memo on desktop is already deleted, so i can not CSV it, I have it on my Tx and in the Tx back up.

Also how do I delete it on the Palm I have over 139 memo, is there a simple way to delete,

can I take to backupman memo file and convert that to a CSV.

Thank you as always

Ok the file that contains the memos on the handheld is called:

MemosDB-PMem - if you delete it - well it will delete all of the memos.

I know of no way to convert a backup to export or to CSV but the corruption is definitely on the handheld that's causing the problem.

So here is a suggestion - but it's a lot of work - backup the aforementioned file to your SD backup.

Then start deleting one memo at time and hot sync in between each deletion to determine the memo that's causing the issue. Once you've determined which one is the cause - then restore from the backup on the SD, delete the offender memo - (write it down so you can then retype it into the Desktop) and then hot sync. This will put all of the good memos back sans the one bad one and hopefully you are then good to go.

However, try and restore all of the memos to the desktop via the Open Archive option off of the file menu. Who knows you might have gotten lucky and they (all 139) are stored as an archive and then you can fore go the above and work my original idea?

What I can do a SD card back up, then a hard reset, then a hotsync which will bring everything over except the memo as it is deleted, then if that all works fine , maybe i re install the SD and from back up, then see if it sync.

Also i have a memopad.bak file 37kb, this should be the 139 memos, but i need to work our how to get it onto the desktop again.

Thank you

bit more progress,

If I hard reset the Tx, then sync, it works fine and as there is no memo on desktop the re installed back up for memo is blank except for the 2 default entries, then if you add to memo and sync it works fine, then if you re install from backupman the memodb, the problem comes back so your have found it.

So how can I remove the corrupted from the Tx as it does not show up in delete to delete.

Now how can i drop the memo.bak into the desktop, so it is ok in the desktop, then it might work.

Make some safe copies of the various memo files on the desktop outside of the normal Palm PIM path's.

Take the memo.dat file and move it out of the directory - take the memo.bak and rename it to memo.dat and see if your 139 reappear.

your a star, it worked and it is all running perfectly, thank you.

Is there a way can take the memodb on my SD card on Backupman to my desktop and convert it to a memo.dat file if i want to.

I vaguely remember seeing some sort of a PDB (handheld file) to a DAT (desktop) converter file but don't recall the specifics.

Do a Google for it and perhaps you'll get lucky - otherwise - I know of no way to do it but perhaps another poster will jump in.

Glad to help.
