hotspot and flexpay

I haven't heard - I'm a flex-pay t-mo user - flex-pay is fairly new so I guess there's hope that they will offer some of the features in the future that they offer their "regular" users. Maybe one of the rabroad/T-Mobile reps can enlighten us.

I find that odd that they wouldn't let paying customers take full advantage of their phone/network. I am not on TMO, but I think that would drive me nuts to be locked out of H@H if I wanted it.

Hopefully a TMO rep here can clarify, like jblackfish said.

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~ it is still a fairly new system and still can't handle a lot of features so something it cannot handel now should be remedied in the future plus they did not think flex pay would be as popular as it is and are just now getting to the point of handeling all exisitng customers with current features so now that they have that almost under controll they should be able to start modifying the system to handle more requests such as hotspots

Thanks PEZ. That makes a lot of sense. I have heard a lot of reps talk about how new flex-pay is in response to some of my "why do they" questions. It's a pretty good service for us "no contract" people and T-mo seems to be a carrier with a lot of flexibility in their plans - no reason that shouldn't continue.

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~and really the biggest thing is the amount of people that came to flex pay they thought it would be 75000 and ended up being 3 million so the bigest hurdel was getting enough reps to handle the amount of customers now that they've got that better if you are a flex customer you can notice a diffrence in hold time now they can work on getting extras for everyone

anyone remember smart access...well smart access was the grandfather to flex pay. they limited those customers to certain rate plans to keep them at a certain limit. same with flex pay they wanted to come out with a plan for subscribers who didn't want to get tied down by a contract, or without the best of credit ratings. Also, they wanted to make/keep some sort of incenive for customers on contracts.

I don't remember smart access - haven't been with T-mo that long and I started with T-mo with a "to-go" account and then added a flex-pay account (both of which I still have) but it would be nice if they offered SOMETHING for people who have a history of impeccable credit (like me) and refuse to submit to a contract. I'm loyal. My last stint with a carrier (Alltel) was for 12 years. I never thought about leaving Alltel until I compared T-mo's BB rate plan ($20/mo) with Alltel's (about $50/mo).

I'm a perfect customer - I'm loyal, I pay my bills on time and always have...and yet I'm "punished" because I won't submit to a 1 or 2-year contract.

I understand the purpose in trying to get a contract commitment and it's a good fit for most people. After all, you can buy a terrific phone at a GREAT discount if you do the contract. I'm just one of those rare people who would rather pay retail (just did for a curve) and not be tied down. T-Mobile is losing money on people like me because I'd buy other services H@H or talk forever, etc. if they offered them to flex-pay customers - they don't.

Anyway, I like T-mobile and I'm staying with them ever though they have some coverage issues in Arkansas. I can still make and take phone calls. I use wi-fi in my home to browse the internet on an AT&T DSL router. (I, and quite a few of my fellow rabroaders, went through some time-consuming activity to get it to work right but we did it and it works great.

I just wish T-Mobile's flex-pay could be a little more flex-ible in it's offerings.

They main thing with the lack of flexabiltiy is that any one that wont sign a contract ( And this is ANY COMPANY) is viewed as High risk. It is unfortuante, there should be an option to pay a higher price on a standard account to have no contract. But then how many people would take it?

I don't want to beat this to death, PD, but why would a "higher price on a standard account" (no contract) be necessary for a NOT high risk customer. And why ASSUME that, if you're not willing to do the contract, you must be high risk? All they have to do is a credit check to determine that one way or the other and they wouldn't have to do one unless some rare goof like me requested it - not that many people would be willing to do it. (I have offered that to T-mo more than once.) We "no contract" customers already pay dearly for our phones: we pay retail for a phone that contract people get for (roughly) half-retail or less...and I have no problem whatsoever with that as a condition of doing business - THAT I get!

Anyway, I'm still staying with T-mo cuz I like 'em.

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~ and that's the way the cookie crumbles. Impeccable responses I must say!! When I spoke to a rep a few months ago it was said that the H@H will be more probable to be open to flex pays after the release of the software update?? Why I don't understand? Because that's RIM and not T-mo? But anyhow I hope to see some sort of change soon!!

Depending on your current flexpay minute plan, you could always just upgrade to the Unlimited anytime minutes ($99) and then you can use the H@H because you have unlimited minutes. I am currently on 300min flexpay account, but with the add-ons I have, it would be $10 more a month to get unlimited minutes which is what I plan on doing, but even now I can make calls over UMA, it will just take from my 300min plan, but if it is unlimited, who cares right? Just my 2cents.

cj3_69, The response on browsing IS wonderful and, now that my UMA is stable, I really do much more browsing than talking...so the UMA is worth it to me over the normal GPRS-only coverage that I get here.

hcdemon, I don't think I need more minutes because I don't use up the 300 that I have now. I just want the calls that I do have to NOT drop.

You can make UMA (H@H) calls without the H@H plan, however it will just deduct the minutes you use from your anytime minutes. From what I can tell on the T-Mo website, there is no H@H for the flexpay accounts right now. A service rep may tell you different.

You are correct in your statement hc, but, as was explained at Talk Forever@home launch, flexpay customers will be offered the Talk Forever programs in the future. The biggest issue is on the billing side of things. Right now I know they are preparing for national launch of Talk Forever @ Home so they don't have the manpower to begin modifying the billing system to allow flexpay customers access to those features but they also realize that customers like J who use flexpay because they don't want contract would be perfect candidates for the @home offering. UMA does work for flexpay as has been stated before and tested (I am on flexpay by choice to control costs). We are all hoping that Talk Forever will be available for those same customers this year.
