Hot girl carpooling in my car, help me!?

So a few of our friends made plans to go out hiking next week, and we're carpooling.

There's a really hot girl I work with that I've had a crush on for months. It just so happened that she's riding with me in my car. It's a sports car with only one passenger seat, so it will be just the two of us for about half an hour.

How can I make the most of this opportunity? I'm terrible at talking to women, does anybody have any tips on how to make some conversation and get her to laugh?
Also, would it be inappropriate for me to ask her for a date at the end?

Just be yourself and talk about where you are going or some topic that both of you have in common (work, previous places that she or you have gone hiking, music, movies, etc). Regarding the date, see how the day goes and if you see clear signs that she is interested go for it. If you don't see clear signs just ask her to lunch, coffee, movie in a "friendly" manner to help build your interactions and get her to know you better. For example if you mention that you saw certain movie but still want to see movie a and/or movie B and/or C (to have more options lol), see if she answers that she also want to see one of them. If she does, take the opportunity to say "maybe we can watch it together and when would she like to see it". Let us know how it went!
