hostel 1+ 2

evening film buRAB, just watched the films HOSTEL one and two
thought two was a little predictable, and not as good as one. what are your views?

I preferred the second one. It's not perfect (especially the opening), but it felt better balanced and the victims are more sympathetic, and the ending is loaRAB better.

The first one is strongest in the first half, with the gradual descent into unease. It's very slow, and dull to watch if you waiting eagerly for gore, but it has the most artistic merit. The section after that with the stuff going on I felt was uninspired, and the final section was silly, like a bad '70s video nasty. Part of the problem is that none of the boys are very likeable, being basically sex-tourists.

What stanRAB out about both is not the gore, but the mechanics and background of the club. For example, the scene in the first one in which the clients are talking about their purchases. I like the second film more partly because it develops that more, showing us more of the client side of the transaction.

The first film just introduced the idea of people paying to carry out their ultimate fantasy but had no definite conclusion. I liked the way the second film took the whole idea a stage further. The ending was a little predictable but still satisfying because of the way the intended 'victim' turned the tables on everything.

I would just like to echo with Brangdon said, that is how I feel about the first one.

I was really looking forward to Hostel but was disappointed when I watched it. I gave Hostel 2 a chance and liked that a lot more. The characters were better. The bath scene has haunted me for life though!

On first viewing the problem I had with the second one was how far fetched it was.The idea that something like that torture biz with internet bidding could exist on such a large scale was incredibly unbelievable.I found the boss came across like a cardboard cut out, foreign villain out of a rambo movie and the opening felt more like a ripoff than a homage of the old horror movie cliche.I won't even start on the hilariously bad dialogue in the last half hour.

Although to be fair I was expecting a similar sequel to Hostel with a realistic feel, not a satire that went it a different direction to the original, even if it did follow the same storyline.
Roth should probably be applauded for doing this.

Hostel was one of the worst horror movies I have ever seen and can't stand it at all. Hostel II was better because I didn't hate the characters but still quite rubbish.

Eli Roth doesn't want to do a third apparently, and there is stuff going around that a straight to dvd third Hostel will be made by different people.

I had an idea for a Hostel III, so suppose that's finished...

I wasn't expecting much when I watched Hostel. But at the end of it I was surprised, it entertained me more than I thought it would have. Hostel 2 on the other hand is a pile of shit. It is inferiour to the first one. Been there, done that. It brought nothing new to the fray.

It was superior for me because,
they killed off the last survivor of Hostel, that is all good, killing off the last remaining p***k.
:) :p

It does make me wonder if it's all true. Went to Bulgaria last year and to register you with the local police they take your passports.. my OH and I were a little scared.

I thought that Hostel 1 was better, I think because the premise had never been explored before. I thought 2 was a bit of a rehash but with girls.

I thought the first film was overhyped & overrated. The 2nd film had a better storyline basically because of the backstory & overall was a far better film.

Funnily enough I hated Hostel 1, thought the characters were loathsome and it was really slow. I gave Hostel 2 a chance and really enjoyed it, with a better plot and characters. But christ, that bath scene!!

I loved the first film it drew you into a false sense of fun jokey security that I enjoyed ! , without the po faced comments here young teens like to go wild an have sex /drugs on holidays ...lol
then Bam it hit you with the premise of a Euro Torture club slaughtering them for sadistic kicks ,
I really rated the first film ,second one was Daft ! :)
