Horrible pain in middle chest sternum area....

Does anyone else get this? Ive been sat at pc so wondering if its a position aggrivated pain? It was awful lve had it loads times its sort of like sternum area like a sharp cramp, lve mentioned this to docs before had ecsg in past and been ok it was really severe :( Thanks all :(

It sounds like it might be costrocondritis - an inflamation of the cartilige (sp?) between the ribs. It's often mistaken for a heart problem, but I'd have the Dr. check it out anyway. You can't be too careful when it's even a possibility of a heart problem.

Tigg.

A big clue for heart is any pain or aches down your left arm and beleive it or not...aching teeth/gums. Unfortunatly not getting these symotoms doesnt mean it's not heart.

Not sure if about your symptoms Niecsaey...maybe intergestion (I know it can be worse in certian postions) might be worth trying an antacid. Sorry not much help.

Thanks all x l do think its costochondritis myself it just takes a while to dxn with fibro and its related conditions here in the Uk! It sure is scary though ; try to ignore it so l dont make it worse! Did notice in the past before my period ld tend yo get this happen nw it happens anytime! Take care all x

Yes, I get this. It's very painful, very sharp and intense. I actually went to the ER once because I have HBP and high cholesterol, and I thought I was having a heart attack.

Thanks Rita x l still have it slightly this morning when l woke up lying on my stomach, lve noticed l get it more in some positions, its really scary :( it dont last long but can come and go as long as it pleases sometimes eben resting my arm on the car window ledge will make it ache too :( lm been very cautious today donot want it kicking off today it felt really bad last night worse than ever! Its still sort of there now l wonder what it is? Is it costo related at all? I have pains all over today :( Thanks again x

I've had similar pain. I also went to the ER with it and arrhythmia (PVC's). The ER doctors didn't find anything seriously wrong.

My best friend is an Echo/Respiratory Tech who does ultasounds of the heart. She said that heart pain is more of an ache, so if you feel a sharp pain it is most likely due to something else. I keep that in mind whenever I have my various and sundry chest pains.

Dull/cramping ache=possible heart issue
Sharp pain=something else

It helps me get through the fear. I hope it helps you, too.

Hi and thanks :) something else to remember if it hurts to press on the area of pain then its likely to be muscular and not heart. But we must always remeber to take any chest pain seriously and checked out! Thanks all x
