I've had a rough life. I know some others had it worse, I'm sure. But I come from a poor family that's still very poor. I ended up going to college straight out of high school when I was 17 but only went for a couple semesters before I ended up in a marriage that lasted merely months. However, during those months of marriage my wife (Who was 25, I was 18) convinced me to get all these credit cards and loans and when funding ran out, even bounce checks. Things got so rough with her I ended up dropping out of college and falling into a deep depression. Shortly after the marriage ended I ended up doing something stupid and getting a felony. This was all almost ten years ago. Since then I have been struggling to find work and to better myself. But it's hard to get by these days when you have horrible credit and a criminal record. I've never had the money to pay back my student loan, let alone anything to the bank nor any of my credit lenders and have been trying to get by this way for years. I recently made the decision to simply go back to college and get a real education.
However, it turns out I must pay in my student loan to go to college. It's an amount I can't realistically pay off, it's more than I've made in any year. (I've never made enough money to even have to file my tax returns! - according to the IRS anyway). What can I do to go to college? I have been out of work for 6 months, not having any luck anywhere. I'd really love to just go back to college and get a career from there, but that just seems to be an opportunity with those who have money.
Is there anything I can do to find funding to go back to school besides financial aid? All I want to do is better my life and I'm more than willing to work hard for it.
