Horrendously awful taste in my mouth

Hi everyone,

I am slowly losing my mind here. Quick background info on me: I am a healthy, married 29 yr old male. I am an endodontist (root canal specialist), married, exercise almost daily, and take OTC meds for seasonal allergies and heartburn. Within the last year, I had an upper endoscopy that game my esophagus and stomach a clean bill of health.

So a few weeks ago, I started noticing what I would describe as a rotten, abscess-like taste when I was eating. I mean, honestly, the taste is horrible, but it would go away once I was done eating. Over the past several days, the taste is now around even when I am not eating. It is to the point where I am almost gagging on the taste. It is making it very difficult to eat because the food I eat tastes good until I get that bad taste again. It is not metallic, not salty, not bitter...it is a rotten, NASTY taste. I am not sure if others can smell it on my breath, as my wife has been out of town. My teeth are great...no cavities/fillings.

So, I am not sure what to do. I am going to call my PCP 1st thing tomorrow...but I am sure she is going to think I am losing my mind. Honestly, this taste is soooo bad, that I could see it driving me insane.

Any thoughts? Why all of a sudden would my heartburn be giving me a bad taste? Ugh...so frustrating...

Thanks in advance,
CT

Does it taste like bone being drilled smells? I have had this off and on for a while (but do have teeth starting to deterioriate). Husband started complaining of this recently but he had all of his teeth pulled years ago, so that ruled that out.

Ours is at the worst in the morning when we get up. We both have chronic post-nasal drip due to allergies. We have figured out that there seems to be a link with this.

You might want to ask your doctor if this is a possibility.

Let us know how it goes!

If it's preventing you from eating enough, you may have gone into ketosis...which will give you a horrible taste in your mouth. Only thing that comes to mind for me.

Hope you get to the bottem of it!

you may find interest in a similiar thread i just read started by legaleagle. there were some suggestions there and explanations.
also, diabetes can change breath but it is a sweet smell i thought.
