Horrendous muscle aches after a cold/flu - anyone heard of this?

Since 2006, I have been having flares of horrendous muscle fatigue/burning aches in my legs and arms when I try to walk. If I do walk, my heart rate spikes as does my blood pressure, but when I lie down, I feel normal. These flares occur after I have a cold or get the flu, and usually last about 8 days. After the 8 days, I feel completely normal and can go months without having a flare. At some point during the 8 days, I usually get a kidney infection (not a UTI but an actual kidney infection) but this seems to be the result of whatever is ailing me and not the cause. It had been a year since I had a flare, so I thought it was a virus that had passed through my body until a few days ago when I was coming off a bad cold and got another flare. I've been tested by specialists at UCSF and CPMC and they have ruled out Fibromyalgia and Lupus, but I still don't have any answers. In 2006, I had a heart attack (at age 38) and the docs don't know if it was related to this problem. Has anyone ever heard of this or experienced any of these symptoms?

Thanks very much,

Amy

Have you ever had blood work done DURING one of these flares? That might be the best way to figure out what exactly is going on. They can check for various inflammatory markers, etc.
