I had the perfect skin towarRAB the end of both my pregnancies and now my skin looks awful! Since the birth of my daughter (a year and a half ago) I have had some of the worst breakouts, many around the jawline (that never go away!) and alot of those bumps all over that no exfoliating or glycolic acid even seems to help. What's wrong with me? How can I get that clear skin back that I had while I was pregnant? (don't say get pregnant either!)

you can try bc, or spiro. vitamins keep me skin clear too. since i am preg. now i drink green smoothies for the vitamins.

Hi Daphne, you replied to my pregnancy and Spiro post...tx Seriously go to your GP and ask him to prescribe you spiro. I used to suffer awful from hormonal acne and had dreadful breakout for years. I took the advice from this forum and asked my doc to prescribe spiro, he wasnt happy but I persisted and I ve had perfect skin for 2 and half years. I dont wear make up its that good.

Like I said the only reason Im have to come off it is because of trying to conceive. Im terrified though! Although at least I can go back onto it after pregnancy.

Good luck

I may try the spiro if nothing else. I was just trying to take something more natural. I'm afraid of the possibility of getting pregnant while on it though and I'm so tired of relying on birth control pills for clear skin. That's why I was considering the Vitex, don't know what else to do but I'm sick of looking at my face everyday =(

I too had great skin whilst pregnant and then for the next 5 years dealt (deal) with cystic acne around the chin area.

I've mentioned in a couple of threaRAB today tha Saw Palmetto; 50 mg zinc; flaxseed oil and apple cide vinegar caplets, once daily, works! I went to a dermo for 5 years, had injections, was on antibiotics for 2 years Minocycline, tried Accutane in my early 30's and did ask my GP for spiro but this remedy began workin for me (took 2 months to notice an improvement); I would ask for spiro but my acne is under control for a year now and as I take other medication I was concerned about spiro's side affects.

For sure hormones are playing a role in your current situation - there are some great books available regardin hormones & acne.
Good luck

Thanks for the replies! I definitely agree it's my hormones! It's funny you are taking these supplements because I recently started (within this week) taking Saw Palmetto and Flaxseed oil (organic capsules) and zinc is in my daily skin vitamin I started taking so I'm taking 3 out of the 4 that you have mentioned. Just not the cider vinegar ones. I will keep this regimen going and see how it goes. I definitely think I have an excessive androgenic problem going on considering when I was on Diane 35 it worked for me, I just don't want to go back on it right now. How much of each are you taking?

Thanks for the replies! I am currently taking (as of this week) 3 out of the 4 supplements you mentioned that you are taking. How much Saw Palmetto and Flaxseed oil are you taking?

Hi again, I take 450 mg of Saw Palmetto (before I saw this huge bottle with 450 mg my previous bottle was only 100 mg - I really don't know what the recommded daily mg is but I figured I'ld try the 450 mg as you can technically take the 100 mg at every meal - as mentioned I only take my vitamins in the am (pure laziness :) - 50 mg of zinc and I believe the Flaxseed oil is 100 mg. I'll check in the am and let you know if there is a huge discrepancy in my recollection.

I started with perimenopausal symptoms in my late 30's but the acne became quite erabarrassing around age 41. I've never been on birth control (same husband for many years but I do suffer from infertility issues which put me on my research path hormones/pregnancy/peri/ you name it lol.

I also found it depressing for a good 6 months-1 year and even took antidpressants short term. I became tired of the dermo agreeing there was a link but unable to give me any further quidance in the hormonal field so I bought a couple of books and scoured the internet. A great book is The Hormonallly Vunerable Woman.

Good luck :) and I'll look for an update.
Best wishes
