Hooking up the WD Passport to a USB enabled CD/DVD player possible?

I just bought a 320GB WD Passport portable hard drive and have transferred most of my music onto it. I also have a 2GB flash drive with music on it which I often plug into my CD/DVD player's USB section so I can listen to some music. I was hoping to do the same thing with the 320GB WD Passport but it didn't work. Just wondering if I need to remove any of the pre-loaded software that came with it or need to format it in some way so it would work on the CD/DVD player?
