Hooking up Direct TV Receiver to Panasonic Surround Sound?

I have a Direct TV satellite receiver that I would like to hook up to my Panasonic SA-HT820V Surround Sound System. Any idea how I would go about doing this? The things Ive tried didn't work. The TV I'm hooking it up too is a fairly old Zenith TV. I don't know the exact model but its one of the projection screen types. Thanks in advance.
Ive tried RCA Cables from the receiver to the surround sound and the surround sound to the TV. Idk how to get it to accept external sources.

You should need only to take a RCA cable from the direct tv receiver and place it into the input ports on the surround. then take another rca cable and run it from the surround to the tv. just make sure to note that in order to watch tv your surround will have to be on and will have to be on the proper device setting.

Connect yellow cable from Direct receiver to TV for video and red & white cables from Direct receiver to sound system for audio.
