Hello Everyone

My name is Toni and I'm new to the forum. My husband has been referred to an Orthopedic surgeon for a spinal fusion.

He has had the epidural shots, therapy and "S/P Laminectomy L4-5, Lurabar Spondylosis with degenerative Scoliosis, Right L3-5 radiculopathy." This was done by the neurosurgeon and has been listed by the Orthopedic Surgeon as, "Failed Back Pain Surgery Syndrome"

The Ortho feels that he is a candidate for PSP L2-5.

Would this be a three disc fusion?

He is very scared and does not want to have the surgery because of the many risks involved including he's a diabetic and a smoker. He will be stopping smoking prior to surgery and we have him juicing and getting his body ready for an upcoming surgery in a few months.

I am looking to start a thread to honor exceptional doctors in various parts of the world, a kind of list to help people make decisions about who to talk with when their fears overwhelm them.

We have read many of your threaRAB and have been encouraged, hopeful and blessed to have found you.

We live in Indiana and are currently seeing Dr. Charles Chuman, neurosurgeon and Dr. Donald Kucharzyk from the Orthopedic Pediatric Spine Institute who are planning on doing the surgery as a team.

They plan on going in through the back only and I'm wondering how the people who had the 360 surgery faired as appossed to the people who only went in through the back or stomach.

Are there any exceptional doctors in large citys or small towns or different states that you think are just great doctors who really do a fantastic job at spinal fusions that you could mention so we could start a list for new patients to make an educated decision?

Best of luck to everyone who have both gone through the surgery and those who are planning on having the surgery.

I wish everyone years of good health!
