Honda TRX500FA Rubicon 2002-carb choke question?

I was just given this TRX500, and I was told there was a choke on the side of the carb. I see a small round black knob on the side of the carb. I suspect this is the choke. Can anyone tell me for sure how this functions on this model of quad. It's a 2002. Is the knob supposed to pull in and out, or is it a pump style that inject fuel into the crab.
There's no owners manual for the unit.
The knob doesnt seem to do anything. Of course I believe it's broke, but I need to know what it's actually supposed to do. Thanks guys
