First bike, light touring, more of a commute bike. Spouse will want to ride at times. Suggestions?

Well for the record I would never endorse a motorcycle that is not a Harley, but if you promise not to tell anybody I will tell you that the Honda 750 ACE is one of the best bikes I have ever owned. It was reliable and started every time. It was fun and comfortable to ride. My teenagers all learned to ride on it and it never missed a beat. I dont know any thing about the suzuki C50 but the honda is gong to be really hard to beat.

Both are equally good bikes. Both are similar in style. Any differences are more of personal preference.

If the Honda Shadow were really superior to the Suzuki S50 everyone would buy the Shadow and no one would buy the S50. Suzuki would be forced to stop building a model that they could not sell. Last time I looked, Suzuki was still selling lots of S50 bikes.

Go to both the Honda and Suzuki dealers. Sit on both bikes. Take them out for a test ride if you can. Pick the one that YOU like best. Not the one that some stranger on the Internet picked for you. You will be much happier with your choice.

Honda I think after Harleys Honda holds there resell value better... then yamaha then suzuki.

What size are you going with. I went with a 1300 yamaha tourer because it has fuel injection and belt drive and 1000 cheaper than the 1300 honda retro which has carb and shaft. You lose gas milage from the carb and lose power from the shaft drive.
I love my 1300 vstar... she ROCKS
