Yes, there is a relay switch. I think you may have a hose leaking or a leak in your radiator. Have the system pressure tested. I mean for real pressure tested. Use the pump up meter with the guages that hooks to the radiator cap, pump it up and watch it for 30 minutes. If it won't hold 15 lbs for 30 minutes, you have a problem. If you have to have hoses changes, get the thermostat replaced while your at it. Once this is known stable, it the problem reccurs, then it is the relay switch or the temperature sensing unit which is mounted in a fitting on the cylinder head.
I had a Honda prelude and had similer symptoms. It didn't get it fixed quick enough and cost myself a cracked block and cylinder head. Very expensive mistake. Deal with this quickly. That's areal nice car. It's worth the extra effort.
