honda odyssey door and transmission problems; elec slide door will not work. how do

I fix these problems? 2001 Honda Odyssey with sliding door that suddenly stopped working by dash and remote switches. very hard to open manually as you might expect. the buzzer sounds all the time. i have tried cleaning all contacts at the door: no improvement. how can I check this out and fix the problem. i am reasonably experienced with tools/repairs.
also have TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. difficult to move the gear shifter to lower gears and there is a whine from the transmission. all upshifts are normal for 130k miles. Honda mechanic said "excessive gear lash, not the typical Odyssey trans problem, can be fixed with $4500 rebuild". any suggestions or similar problems/experiences/fixes?? thanks for any help
 
Hard to diagnose the door online - maybe go to a body shop (especially one that repairs Hondas) and have them take a look. For the trans, has the fluid level been checked and / or the fluid changed ?? also, is this an auto or manual trans ?? I am presuming manual, as there is no reason to downshift an auto trans. If fluid change does not help, get several opinions and estimates for repair or replacement (in writing, I might add)
