91 Honda Civic Overheating AGAIN?
Ok I just bought an 91 Honda Civic DX, has like 187,000 miles. It was overheating, changed the thermostat, took the radiator to be check (ok), flushed the radiator. Replaced the water pump. Has run well for an old car for about a month. Couple days ago overheated on the way home from work. (15 miles) . Parked it. was steam coming from passenger side of engine. but seemed more like it was oil on parts burning not a specific piece. radiator reservoir was empty. There is not any leaks that i can tell ( from looking at the driveway). filled the reservoir. let it cool and drove it around the block. Went to HOT.
got a ride to work the next day.
I checked the oil, and it seems dark, (not milky) so i took of the radiator cap, put in water and turned the car on. let it run, kept adding water anytime i could not see it. when i would add a lot of water it would bubble a bit but more like bubble when u put water in a glass figure that was air. I waited for car to heat up to the mid point (on the gauge) i think i didnt really add enough water before because i kept adding and adding more. it bubbles. but not consistantly. it would bubble and then just sit, bubble ect... when i would rev the gas it would like squirt water out. lol. ok.
So i turned of car. topped off the water and drove around the block. HOT. dangit!!
ok went inside ate some pizza, went out an hour later engine still warm? ok turned her on. gauge went to 1/4 way up. ok can handle that. turned ac fan on... drove around. got a little further this time before getting to H. of course then i was further from home. Parked.
Steaming like CRAZY! didnt open hood. went inside. grabbed a beer.
I talked to my dad and he said sounds like head gasket, motor problem. i dont know anything about cars!!
Any ideas. hopes.
If it is in the motor, head gasket. how much would a repair cost?
